I've been running 0.7.0 for awhile and it has been working fine on my system; today I went back to watch the end of a movie I was watching this morning, and it won't play. The recordings show up, and everything looks like it should be working, but when I click on the play button nothing happens.

Linux Build

Im attempting a Linux build. Ive worked the svn to a point where I can build and link.
The gui is coming up and the dialog for the hostname for the backend is coming up.

This is where its stops, the sys/socket.h connect is failing. The errno is set to 111, which is:
#define    ECONNREFUSED    111    /* Connection refused */
Any ideas?

Update:
Think i found a fix, at least i appear to get a connection and some data
        #else
            //ip = inet_addr(inet_ntoa(*((struct in_addr *)h->h_addr)));
        host.sin_addr = *(struct in_addr *) h->h_addr;
        #endif

with this change im getting channel and tuner info, but it appears to hang loading the renderer

Update 2:
Its starting to work, i can replay a recording, although once it started the GUI is hung. Live TV also works.
My pandora build still has the connect issue above, which is strange.

Update 3:
Ok got my pandora to connect, just crashes on playback, progress I think the spark connect needs to be reworked
Deinterlace works on the pc build, noticed the gui lockup doesnt happen unless i click the sdl window

Guys & Dolls,

we are currently starting off to being multi-language in MythTVplayer. So please, if you can spend 2 hours of time, translate with us, translate for us, translate for yourself.

Currently we have already:

- German
- Greek
- Brazilian/Portugiese
- Spanish
- French
- Dutch

Add to this thread, announce your language and we will contact you with details how to get involved. You should however be able to update the language file now and then, as we are of course planning to add new strings rather often

Status of included ffmpeg and deinterlacing??

Hi all

I found Mythtv Player today and don't know very much about it yet. But from what I've seen it's a very interesting application that would be useful for me.

So I wanted to ask some questions :

1. From quickly browsing the site and svn I learn that ffmpeg is used. But it seems not be very recent version.
There is now h.264 multithreading and various other improvements regarding h.264 decoding in ffmpeg. Will it be very long before these features are included in Mythtv Player?

2. Mythtv recently got greedy high motion and yadiff deinterlacers (from dscaler project). Greedy h is very nice for deinterlacing (sd) digital tv. Will it be very long before dscaler deinterlacers are available in Mythtv Player?

I don't mean to put stress on someone by asking those questions, but it would be nice to have some idea of approximate timeframe for availability of those features.

The 0.21 version of MythTV was just released. This version increases the MythTV protocol to version 40. By default, MythTv Player 5.0 only supports up to version 36.

You can override this by changing the <AcceptNewerProtocols> setting from a 0 to a 1 in the config.xml file found in your MythTV Player install directory.

I've only watched a recorded program so far, but everything is working normally so far. I don't see why anything would break, unless the MythTV developers have obsoleted something.

Hi guys, new user of MythTV player. I'd like to let you know I've installed the player (non live-tv version) and I have to say I'm very impressed. Simple and Effective; that is what required and that is what has been delivered. I think the player needs to be advertised much more effectively. I've been searching for a week for such a player and any forums I've looked at have said either Virtual emulation or WinMyth (which is non-functional as far as I can see) to connect to MythTV backends.

I've a question about the LiveTV version. What is the stability like; I'm no expert programmer and will wait until it becomes stable before I start messing around with it

Maximum number of MythTV Players Running

So I was just testing things from my laptop and I could run 4 MythTV Players at the same time.
I was just wondering if anyone was running more or have tried to run more.

This creates a poor mans PiP. The only issue I had was all the sound was playing at the same time. I did not try to raise and lower the volume or mute them.

It would be cool to see a PC with dual video cards with Dual Screens each - 4 total screens all using MythTV Player with a full screen of video in each.

Anyone using dual screens with 2 instances of MythTV Player running?

Hi,

I just discovered mythtvplayer today and it is truly a blessing. After years of non-working solutions it finally seems I can get mythtv working on my gf's windows box. Btw. she is also home on perternity leave, so the pressure was increasing to get something working

I appreciate that you probably are very busy, nonetheless I hope that you have resources to continue development, although the latest version seems quite stable from the little testing I've done.

Thanks,

Bjørn

When mythtvplayer plays back videos that have fast movement in them the moving object appears jagged at the edges. This does not happen for the same video when played back using something like WinDVD. Is the fix for this the "deinterlazer" that I am seeing in other posts?

Thanks for a great piece of software.
I wonder if the code will be open source in the future, just like mythtv?
Will it even require payment ?
Mikkel - Great program!! I've been looking for this for quite some time now.

I am having a strange problem however - I get a "Rebuffering" message every 15 seconds or so, despite the fact that I am on a local 100Mbps network. All cards, switches, cabling support 100Mbps. Streaming using other programs (VLC for one) works flawlessly, even without resampling the stream. Even over a Samba connection using Windows Media Player my files seem to play fine.

Any idea why playback using MythTVPlayer would be having these problems? I appreciate any insight you might have.

Thanks once again for a great program.

Samba connection Jerky, sometimes.

Hi,

I am running into a vexing issue. I am streaming video form a MythTV backend on Centos4 to a WinXP box over a 100mps wired connection. The network card on both the backend, and my XP box, in addition to the switch that services this segment of the network are locked down at 100FD.

I want to use Samba shares because I have read in several places that it is a better solution when multiple users access the back end.

When I stream video to the MythTVPlayer, not using a Samba share, everything works great. However, when I use the Samba share I defined, I get some weird results. Using version 0.3.5 of the MythTVPlayer works much better than using version 0.4.1.

Using v0.3.5, the video loads, but at the beginning the stream skips (both video and audio). However, if I skip ahead to the middle of a video, it plays smooth. And after doing that, if I move the slider back to the beginning of the video, it plays smooth also. This is a repeatable behavior on all the videos I have recorded thus far.

On version, 0.4.1, the player either locks up upon loading the video, or it is rebuffering, even though I have disabled stream buffering. I disabled buffering on both versions of the player because the stream constantly rebuffers throughout a recording.

I would attach the output of the log.txt, but it is truncated by the maximum characters allowed in the forum. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ken

Hi Mikkel,

Don't know if you remember me, I was having stuttering problems that you fixed. Anyways, finally back to being able to use your MythTV Player. When I moved to a new place, I had to rearrange where my computer and TV rooms were, couldn't use a wired LAN and was forced to use a crappy wireless connection. Not enough bandwidth for it to use the player, unfortunately.

But, finally I upgraded my wireless network and back to being able to watch my recorded shows on my computer. Heh, just for fun I watched a show and played a game at the same time. The high priority option works great.

So, thanks again for all the work on the player. Hope you keep working on it and can't wait to see what new features you bring to it.
As per the mythTV it has Jump and Skip options which are useful to skim thru video.

Also a OSD to tell where I am in a playback would be good I know I can see it in the play control, but I mostly use Fullscreen so its a pain to switch back to find the current pointer.

It would be good to show an OSD using keyboard command eg "o" to bring up current time bar

other than that its pretty good as a windows viewer.

Hi Mikkel

I can't seem to get the ffmpeg includes right.

Your AudioDecoder.h includes the two ffmpeg headers in the following way:

#include <ffmpeg/avformat.h>
#include <ffmpeg/avcodec.h>

But when i check out ffmpeg, avformat.h is located at ffmpeg\libavformat\avformat.h
and avcodec.h is located at ffmpeg\libavcodec\avcodec.h.

How is the ffmpeg folder structure in your
root:
    /libs:
        /include:
            /ffmpeg
folder?
I have recently downloaded MythtvPlayer and I think that it is very good; the only features I am missing are live TV and the possibility to shedule recordings.
But I think that many small improvements could be made in the player - but since VLC is a great media player I wondered wheater it is possible to pass the data from MythtvPlayer to an input plugin for VLC or to use this program as an input plugin.
If you like to implement such a feature I would offer to try to help...

0.3.6 Test version

For anybody who want to help out or is simply interested, I uploaded a test version of MythTv Player 0.3.6.

The largest change is that I have tried to improve the player on smaller machines. (Hopefully I succeeded) Not that the player need less CPU-power but that the jitter should be less, and that the player should drop less frames on especially smaller machines. My 6MBIT recordings now runs smoothly on my 1Ghz P3 laptop where it dropped 20% of the frames before and the sound could "stutter" quite a lot. This is mainly achieved by changing the rebuffering a bit, and changing to the PThread library such that I can control the priority of the different threads within the player. I also added an option to increase the entire process from "normal" to "high" in the option screen.

What I would like to have tested:
- Has the "performance/jotter" of the player improved or is it just made worse?
- I have had some trouble that the player deadlocked when opening a new file but I think I fixed that. I would like to know if anybody experience this problem with the test version.
- All other feedback.

There are also many small changes and improvements since last version. The full changelog is included below.

From now on I will upload both a zip file as well as an installer (Thanks for Rich West for the installer)
Zip-file: http://sudu.dk/mythtvplayer/files/0.4/MythTvPlayer0.3.6pre…
Installer: http://sudu.dk/mythtvplayer/files/0.4/MythTvPlayer-0.3.6pr…

Mail me or write here in the forum if you find any bugs or have suggestions for improvements.

Cheers.

\Mikkel

Full Changelog
0.3.6
- 'Jitter improvements'
Player should drop less frames now and jitter should be reduced. Sound is prioritized
higher and the player should drop frames before making "stuttering" audio.
   This is done by:
     - changing to Pthreads and increase priority of the rendering and decoding threads.
     - The way frames are dropped is improved.
     - Buffer underuns are now properly detected instead of guessed. When the audio can
not be delivered to the audio-device, a rebuffering is triggered.
- Process priority can now be changed from Normal to High in the preference GUI
- Added possiblity to open local file (right-click and choose open)
- Shortcut system implemented. Shortcuts are now shown in context-menu (right-click)
Is quite ready for making the shortcuts configurable at a later point.
- Context-menu (right-click) has been added some more items.
- Fixed deadlock that could occour when opening a recording with a bookmark
- Mouse is now shown for in fullscreen when mouse is moved. Is hidden when mouse has
   been inactive for 2 seconds.
- When clicking on column in recordings-GUI to sort the current group is now remembered
- Double-click on a recordings now starts playing it
- Changed way SDL functions are called. Should remove a couple of odd deadlock possibilities.
- Fixed bug that caused the player to remain at "buffering (0%)". It was caused by a bug in
the timer implementation of the SDL library. It should now work.
- Minor fixes: Framerate shown with 2 decimals, GUI said buffers was 100% full JUST after
   a seek.

Multiple connections to MythTV cause pauses and freezes

Hi,

First off, thanks. I have not been able to stream MythTV to a PC using either VideoLan or Windows Media Player. The MythTV Player is a wonderful solution to stream recordings from a Linux box to a Windows Box. I really like the fact that you can expand the columns in the recording window in the new version so that you can view the whole title of a recording.

I set up a Knoppmyth server in order to stream training programs over a LAN. Everything works great when 1 to 3 people access recordings simultaneously. But once that number goes 4 simultaneous users, the stream being fed to the MythTV Player experiences pauses, and occasionally the stream just freezes. When I test this situation, 5 people are accessing different recordings on the knoppmyth server.

I first used the default settings for the player (version 0.3.4). Then I upgraded to version 0.3.5. I changed the MythTV player settings so that it connects via a samba share rather than the myth protocol, and I disabled stream buffering as recommended in another thread.

I am streaming through the network at 100mps full duplex.

My question is this: Is the player, as well as MythTV made to support multiple simultaneous connections? If so, are there other tweaks to the player's settings that my help create more stable viewing performance when several people are simultaneously accessing video.

Is there any documentation, or could someone help explain how the following settings in the config.xml file affect performance of the player?
        <VideoPacketBuffer>75</VideoPacketBuffer>
        <AudioPacketBuffer>75</AudioPacketBuffer>
        <VideoframeBuffer>5</VideoframeBuffer>
        <StreamBufferSize>1048576</StreamBufferSize>
        <StreamBufferBlockSize>32768</StreamBufferBlockSize>
        <PreBufferingPercent>10</PreBufferingPercent>
        <ReBufferingPercent>50</ReBufferingPercent>

Thanks for any assistance you may be able to provide.
