Hi

I would like to be able to play live radio. Currently when I try to click on a radio channel from the program guide. I get

"Couldn't find video stream"

Normal TV Channels work just fine though.

Many thanks for your on going hard work on mythtv player!
Hi,
Sorry if I've missed this in other threads,
I am at a workplace so don't want to download anything until I know my computer can handle it and it does what is required.
It is essential that I record tv shows with captions (I am not allowed to show them without). Does this programme do that and is it easy? I've had many pieces of equipment say that they do but then I can't playback and it's becoming very confusing.
Also, I would like to be able to set advance programming - this doesn't do that yet is that correct?
Also, what hd capacity would I need and tv card for this to work consistently every day?
Thanks for your help, this looks like a great product...

Guys,

I would like to propose the idea that the player can optionally copy or move recordings to your local harddisk, allowing them to be taken with you. It would also copy meta-info from the mythtv Db, so that cutlists and comemrcial skipping still works. How does that sound for you?

It could also lower the expiry for such transferred recordings on the original backend, following the idea that recordings made portable are more probable being seen soon and can be deleted earlier etc etc...

I think this would really boost or player a bit, since no other player has AFAIK such a feature.

comments welcome!

I am new, and did a preliminary search in the forums and FAQs but could not find this information.

My husband runs Myth as the backend on our server (huge linux guy), but because of some of the programs I must use for work, I have to run windows. I use Myth TV Player... which to date is fairly flawless on skipping commercials (in my opinion even better than when we use the backend to watch on TV).

What I'm asking is, is there any way to backup / burn with the commercials taken out, to save space on server, etc.?

Thanks for your time and consideration, please keep it up!!! You're doing a great job.
There is a great feature in Catalyst Control Center called "Theater Mode" which - ones enabled - makes any video playback automatically appear in full screen on your secondary display (TV in my case).
This works great with Windows Media Player and MPlayer Classics but unfortunatly MythTV Player does not seem to be "recognized" as video playback.

Renaming Recordings?

First, I would express my appreciation to Mikkel Stensgaard for writing this application.

Having said that...

How about pulling out ahead of MythTV and allowing users to rename recordings?

To me, at least, this would be some useful functionality for shows like "NOVA" - where, over time, one winds up with multiple "NOVA" recordings - each on a different subject.

e.g. I could rename the 11/27 NOVA to "Marine Rescue (NOVA)".

or I could rename the 12/7 NOVA to "Mt McKinley (NOVA)".

I'm guessing I'm not the only one who has a habit of falling asleep in front of the TV; Sadly, when you watch a video in fullscreen, Windows (or something) disables the screensaver/sleep mode. Pretty practical when you're watching... but it would be nice that after a fullscreen video ends, MythTV player would close the fullscreen automatically in order to let the computer fall into sleep mode.

It'd be nice if commercial skipping was a checkbox (like deinterlacing), so that it could be shut off while watching. Sometimes the commercial skip routines bug out, and fighting the auto commercial skip isn't fun on a bad skip.

(That way, you could click off commercial skipping, back up, and watch the feed as it came in, then turn it back on later.)

Lately I have been using the "classic media player", with tapeworm, but I'm planing to move to the Storage Groups feature in mythtv and I don't think that will work with that.
Could you leverage off the classic player as it seems pretty good at ffw/rew etc...
Not sure if you can stream directly to s/w or just pass it a "samba share" or file location.
Mikkel: First of all, a big thank you for Mythtv Player. I'm setting up my first home media network with the aid of Linux (Mythbunbtu) and, especially because of my wife's preferences, Windows.
There'll come the day when AutoCAD gets ported to Linux... that'll be my last day with Windows.

LiveTV works pretty well, sometimes it starts "rebuffering", never reaching more than 2% and hanging the video window. I think it's owed to a video problem, because the player seems to be pretty video resource-hungry (it's used to hang whenever I scroll down text in some other application).
Some other times it rebuffers (rarely), but it recovers the connection immediately. On these occasions, there's no other interference from my side (I mean, I'm not doing anything but watching Mythtv Player).

I would appreciate to see some improvement in video rendering.

Also, it'd be great to have a pop-up bar when in fullscreen in order to change channels and shift the volume.

I wish I knew some programming in order to be able to give you a hand!!

Would it be possible to have it fallback to streaming the video from the backend if the file is not found in the listed samba share?

Also, would be nice if I could just specify a local directory.

I have some recording that I know will likely only be played on a specific computer. My idea was to create a folder on that computer and share it, then mount it on the backend and set it up as a storage group. Then when I have something I know will only be viewed on that computer I can copy it over so that when it is viewed it doesn't need to be streamed over the network.

This almost works. I setup a folder called "store", mounted it on the backend and created a storage group.

I then moved a recording to it. I was still able to view it on all frontends/mythtvplayer.
Next, I set "open recordings from windows share" and set the share as //127.0.0.1/store.
I went to play the recording and it worked great with no network activity.
However, when I went to play something else it just said file not found .

So yeah, it almost worked ... just falling back to streaming from the backend if it doesn't find the file would fix it.

Thanks for MythTv Player!

I would like to suggest a feature. I have a usb remote control and it generates different keystrokes than used by default. If I was able to customize the keyboard shortcuts I would be able change it so that it would work with my remote.

Thanks Again.

I am not sure if it has been suggested or implemented, but I would like to be able to see subtitles (closed captions).

I absolutely love MythTv Player. It's a great way to watch my recorded shows on my computer. I have a suggestion, which really stems from my frustration trying to get any transcoding programs to work in MythBuntu (I've probably spent a good 8 hours tinkering trying to get it to work). I've tried directions on all sorts of sites, I've recompiled ffmpeg to include support for file systems like xvid or h264 and yet I'm still not able to get it to succesfully transcode any recorded programs. It seems the CODEC install process in Windows is much easier, so I am wondering how much more work would it be to be able to include a transcode option in MythTVPlayer. I was able to download a program, Videora IPOD Convertor, that worked right away once I installed. Based on the console view of that program I believe it is just a front end for ffmpeg, so it would seem like an reltively easy addition to MythTVPlayer to add support for transcoding. Just a friendly suggestion to a great program!

Ability to view LiveTV streams at lower bitrate

LiveTV in general works well on non-HD streams where the bitrate is manageable by my network and system.

However, LiveTV proves essentially useless when watching HD streams since the bitrate exceeds the ability of my network to transmit it and/or my laptop to play and decode it without continual pauses and hiccoughs.
And this is playing over a LAN. Playing Live HD over a WAN is a non-starter (at least for me)

Given that HD is becoming more prevalent, it seems like this will be an increasing problem.

So, is there any way to adjust the bitrate say by doing some type of on-the-fly transcoding or is this outside of the existing capabilities of mythtv itself and would it be better to use some other streaming solution such as mythstreamtv/vlc?

It would be really cool though to have a native mythtv stream stepped down to a low bitrate so that I could watch a small live tv screen on my Windoze laptop from anywhere in my house without taxing my network or laptop.

Thanks

Hi there,
how is it going? Player working quite well now for me,
so I thought it might be time to start requesting features .

First: Multiple audio streams. As some channels send multiple streams
(e.g. mp2/ac3 or dual language) switching would be nice.
Second: Automatic aspect ratio detection.

Both are features supported by the frontend.

Best Regards

I have to say the new version with liveTV is awesome! Thank you for all the work on this.

I am going to be setting this up on some touch screens that will also be used for home automation. It would be great if the controls were just a little larger so they would be easier to manipulate with fingers instead of a mouse pointer. The other option is to allow remote control interface as has been mentioned before

Hi Mikkel, and thank you, as always, for what you've already done here regardless of what more you choose to do.

I may be missing it, but is there no key-mapped volume control? This would be a very useful feature when watching in full-screen mode. For compatibility with Media Player Classic (my favorite non-mythtv player), I'd vote up-arrow and down-arrow for volume up and down, respectively, and Ctl+M for mute - or allow the user to configure the entire key map (I'd be willing to hand-edit the config.xml file to achieve the latter in the short term.)

Best,
Hi,

I would like to be able to edit the recordings from withing mythtvplayer.

Manual commercial cutting through the mythfrontend interface is kind of clumsy.

It would nice addition to mythtvplayer.
Thanks,
