Audio stops when the player loses focus

I have searched the forums, and can't find anything on this subject. I found one link in google about it, but no resolution.

I use MythTV Player to watch live tv and pre-recorded stuff from my back-end server, and it works great except for one issue. When MythTV Player loses focus, it loses audio. I have looked in windows settings, and do not see anything causing it to lose the audio. The video continues just fine though.

Edit: Not all programs that take the focus away cause this issue. I may have to do more checking, but it may be programs that use Direct Sound. The main one that gives me the problems is VirtualBox.
MythTV Player 0.7.0
Windows 7 64 bit
AMD Phenom II X6

Was watching the WC Final tonight but needed to pause for a while; came back and played from buffer no problem until it came to programme change time when I was prompted with that stupid "MIKE: Skip commercials" prompt; clicking NO in a fury, it then dropped the buffer taking me to real-time, by which I had missed the final whistle!!

To replicate:-
Example prog is from 18:00 to 19:00
Start watching example programme in Live TV mode
Pause for x minutes
When 19:00 arrives and "real time" programme has finished, player jumps to "real time" loosing buffer.

If you play the program back from recordings > live tv group you can watch the buffer but it will only take you up to 19:00, in the case of some sporting events, they go over time and so, because I was not watching the Live TV from 19:00 (I was watching the recording), it lost the vital few moments of the event.

Dear all,

regardless if you have issues with the 0.6 candidates or not, we would like you to test the latest build against different type of recordings you have in your backends.

Please grab the latest 0.7.0-xyz build from here https://sourceforge.net/projects/mythtvplayer/files/ - and give us some feedback if your experience gets better or worse.

Please use a separate directory for this, in favour of overwriting/corrupting your working installation!

Thanks you and kind regards,

Multiple monitors, MythTv Player only works on primary monitor (was using LiveTv mode). Have desktop system with two video adapters, one monitor per adapter, not two monitors on one adapter, not a dual-head adapter. Video window stops updating when window dragged to 2nd monitor. Audio does continue. If video window moved back to orignal monitor, video frame updates continue in sync with audio. Using version 0.7.0-r243, Windows XP SP3 fully patched as of this post date. With backend on Fedora 12, latest MythTv yum update available.

I'm not sure exactly how I caused this to occur, but I think I tried to resize and move the display window while a stream was being played back. During the operation the display window relocated itself several hundred pixes from where mouse pointer was located, while it did track the mouse it did so very eratically, eventually the entire display was lost off screen with negative x or y coordinates. I had to edit config.xml file to recover normal display location.

might be worth while to add code to prevent negative values from being stored in config file or adding a reset button to reset display to known state.

Two really annoying bugs

I have used your excellent MythTV player under windows now for several months, in this time my two children (aged 4 and 9) have both become proficient in it's nice, clean and simple interface. Top marks for such a great (and FREE!) product!!!

Now, my ONLY problems with this software are as follows:-
1. In the player window, sometimes left-clicking seems to bring up the context-menu; being used to double-left-clicking to maximise the window (which works when the window is first focussed), it pauses the playback. (Play/Pause being the first option in the context menu). Although this isn't a catestrophic failure bug, it's a big annoyance .. a friend of mine downloaded the software and he's experiencing the same thing (I use XP, he uses Win 7).

2. Should you 'restore' the window (ie exit full screen) and then try to move the player window, the movement steps are greatly increased - for example, if I drag it say 100px across to the left, it will move 1000px to the left. All directions seem to be affected. It's not so bad for me as I know to right-click the application/taskbar icon, click move and then use the cursor keys to re-locate the window. Again, not catestrophic but a major annoyance.

I sincerely hope that these can be addresses at some point.
All the best

*first the mythtv player window problem since it is quite easily to find. When you try to move video window of mythtv player in most cases (go fullscreen and then resize to normal size that seems to trigger it) it moves too fast and not the way it should. Tried with two computers other had intel gfx card and other had ati and operationg systems where vista premium and business both 64bit.

Most files that i have recoreded using mythtv 0.22 wont play correctly. Instead it plays video sometime (never know how long but you can tell that video is unwatchable if seeking doesn't work) and then it jumps at the beginning of the video (with out stopping it, it will stay in loop). Jump to beginning also happens when you try to jump ahead in the video. Problem doesn't seem to affect videos that i have recorded with 0.21.

Here is the backend log

2009-12-07 13:04:59.242 MainServer::ANN Playback          // i get this when i start video
2009-12-07 13:04:59.242 adding: MythTvPlayer as a client (events: 0)
2009-12-07 13:04:59.244 MainServer::HandleAnnounce FileTransfer
2009-12-07 13:04:59.245 adding: MythTvPlayer as a remote file transfer
2009-12-07 13:05:15.005 ProcessRequest unknown socket //stopped video after it jumpped to beginning

Im seriously thinking about going back to 0.21 because of these problems =(.

Thanks for continuing development this is simply the best mythtv interface... mythtv´s own gui is good if you are using it with remote controller, but not so good with mouse and keyboard. Also mythtv player is much more clearer and easier = faster to use.

This is more of an annoyance than anything and I wondered if anyone else had seen it. I run a multi-display desktop...3 to be exact. When I start MythTVPlayer, it always starts on the 1st screen. I'll move the display window to another monitor and when I press play to watch a recording or live TV it moves back to the first monitor. So, I'll drag it back and resize it, but when I play a new show, it resizes again and jumps to the first screen.

Also, If I try to maximize it on the third screen (which has a slightly different resoution), it will jump back to the first screen, but maximized.

I'm currently running MythTV Player 0.5.0 on an AMD, using 2 ATI Radeon HD4670 on Windows 7, although I've seen the same issue with Windows XP, Windows Vista, and my single ATI Radeon X1950 Pro.
This may be considered to be a unique situation. I have changed the theme of Windows XP. So, one of the dll's is no longer XP native.

When using a new theme, MythTv Player crashes on start. It can't even get to the initial screen. If I change the theme back to a default XP theme, the player works fine. It's kind of annoying to change themes when I want to use the player, but I don't know what's causing it. The fact that the player still works, even with the modified dll, leads me to believe that's not the problem.

I haven't noticed any other applications having this problem. If you want the Microsoft generated error report, I can attach it, but I don't even know if that would provide any insight.

On UK DVBT there are quite a few audio only channels, mostly replicating FM radio stations.
When opening these in mythtvplayer it crashes out stating it cannot find the video stream (though I have to say I haven't yet tried it in a standard mythtv frontend).

There is most likely bug of somesort because player cant choose free input if you have preffered recorder set to none and one recorder is in use (in my config this mean half of the recorders(5/10) are commited to one mux and other 5/10 are unused).

i have dvb card that has two decoder card, but i could imagine this would also help people who have more than one dvb card and use multiplex.

Hi I am using Ubuntu with the 0.21.0+fixes16838-0ubuntu3.1 MythTV package for my backend. When MythTV Player starts up it complains that the backend is using protocol version 40 but that MythTV Player only speaks 18-36. I edited the config file to allow newer protocols and now it loads fine.

My problem is that seeking seems to be messed up. I can seek the recording just fine on my linux mythfrontend but whenever I try to seek on MythTV player it only seeks forwards and by unpredictable amounts. Even if I try to seek backwards it still goes forwards. Sometimes it will jump by as much as 10-20 minutes when I only tried to do a short 5-10s forward seek.

Does anyone have a similar problem? Is this occuring because my version of MythTV is too new?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

The 0.5.0 player crashes much too frequently.
I've tried later versions, but they crash even more frequently.
With certain recordings it will crash in the same exact spot repeatedly -- it crashes, I restart it, it crashes again in the same spot, I restart it, it crashes again in the same spot, yadda yadda, I fast forward to get past the crash point.
Pretty frustrating.

I'm not totally sure this is a player problem, but I have tried to eliminate some videos... and they look like they are deleted... but they return. The video files no longer exist, so this must be a 'disconnect' between the directory and the database.

I assume I can fix this if I only knew which table the player plucked its data from. Anyone know?

Hi,

I discoved a startup crash for inpatient people (like me).

If you start MythTV 1.5.1 pre10 and directly click livetv before it fully load/connect it will crash. Hopefully this can be fixed because I just keep making the same mistake over and over :P
