Weird echo in *some* recordings

Subject: Weird echo in *some* recordings
I'm getting a weird echo in some recordings, but not others...

Those shows that I've transcoded don't work at all, but the virgin shows seem to be OK.
I'm using mpeg4 from broadcast TV, and my machine is a 2 GHz celeron with a GeForce 400MX.
CPU usage is OK...
