Subject: VLC
Hello,

I have recently downloaded MythtvPlayer and I think that it is very good; the only features I am missing are live TV and the possibility to shedule recordings.

But I think that many small improvements could be made in the player - but since VLC is a great media player I wondered wheater it is possible to pass the data from MythtvPlayer to an input plugin for VLC or to use this program as an input plugin.

If you like to implement such a feature I would offer to try to help...

Best regards

Ole

What benefit would this provide?

Hello,

I think that there would be several small improvements. For example, the video could be deinterlaced, the colour could be adjusted, there would be some hotkeys and some simple osd notifications, etc.
I know that these features are not the most important ones, but it would be nice to implement them. - But I am not sure if it would be faster to develop them on one's own then to use VLC...

Kind regards

Ole

Well. I guess it would be possible to create an input-plugin for VLC. But isn't this already possible? By sharing your recordings through samba and setting up mythtweb such that the links in mythweb starts the recording in VLC? Or by using Tapeworm which I believe does exactly this in a small windows-application.

The goal of this project is to create a simple player which is tightly integrated into myth. Hopefully, this especially pays of when livetv becomes a reality and when playing recordings that are still recording.
I have to admit I have reconsidered a couple of times if it was the right decision to create a new player instead of using VLC as a base. VLC does have a lot of features and I have used 95% of the time with player related issues instead of mythtv features. But now the players works quite good :) I could add the possibility to launch VLC with the parameters of the recording but this would only work for samba-shares and not for live-tv, so it would not add anything that can't be done in mythweb or with tapeworm so I am not sure it would make any sense.
Please write if you disagree?.. I am always open to suggestions.
