I plan to implement the following:
1) If a recorder is already on a channel you want to watch, hook onto that one instead of starting a new one
2) When a recorder is needed by a schedule, try to find another recorder to take over

I might implement the following
22) Ability to either sort the channel listing, or be able to search it (ie start typing the channel callsign and have it skip to it in the list, and be able to hit enter to start playing)
23) Have a protocol for opening a channel from the mythweb interface (ie. mythtvplayer://KDKA will open mythtv player and change to KDKA and start LiveTV, or use the existing instance of mythtv player and change the channel)
24) Option for auto-deletion of the livetv recording upon tuner release.

I will update this list as I get more feedback

I am curious how the bandwidth is decided for live viewing?  I thought, possibly, it was related to the live TV profile, but changing that didn't seem to make an difference.  I would like the ability to cut down the bandwidth so I could stream video off my LAN, to my computer at work for instance.

At first glance, Live is working perfectly for me.

We have a commercial DVR from my cable company at home, but MythTV is what I use 99% of the time.  Mostly, that's because of your player!

All the best,
Geoff

Thanks for the nice words ;)  Knowing that people are actually using the player makes it a lot more fun to develop.

As I use the standard LiveTv features of MythTv, I think it is the livetv profile that is used - but I actually never checked it.

The shown bandwidth is misleading for livetv recordings and other recordings that are not done recording.
I simply show the average needed bandwidth for the recording, as it is reported by the ffmpeg codec. (The size of the recording divided by the length) I do not update this bandwidth as time goes on, so it is only calculated JUST when starting to play a new recording where the livetv recording is very small - so the bandwidth will not be correct.
In the next version I will update the bandwidth requirement as more video is recorded.

Mikkel,

I just tried 0.5.0 and live TV works great!  As always, great job!

Here are some ideas for feature enhancements:
1. Add Channel # to the Live TV interface.  Most of the time I know I want to watch either channel 14, 26, or 47.  It takes me a bit longer to locate them without the channel #.

2. Add ability to sort LiveTV listings by column.  It's nice to be able to quickly find a show by title or sort for shows that won't end for quite a while.

3. Add a new tab titled "Keys" in the preferences area that simply lists all the shortcut keys (info in keys.txt).  This would save me from having to search for the shortcut keys while I'm watching TV. :)  In the future the keys listing could be user-updateable to choose what keys perform which functions.

Thanks again for a great product!

Here is a nice new feature I would like to see in the future; viewing multiple LiveTv channels.
would be really awesome to have 3 channels visible in different windows at the same time ;-)

With feature [24], I believe that this functionality is already in MythTV itself in that it will autoexpire recordings including LiveTV recordings.

With the multiple channel thing, I think picture in picture would be nice feature. I thought about asking for a screen where you could have a number of channels displayed with a greatly reduced from rate (a channel scan). The problem with this is I know with my DVB tuners it can take a second or two to tune to the channel so it would not be practical to implement. If the channels were on the same multiplexer it may be a different story.

Just throwing it out there.

The multiple screen feature would be a killer.  DirectTV has multiple football games on Sundays.  I only want two (CBS/FOX on Sundays), but being able to show both (or more) would be cool.

As I only have one recorder it would not really be interesting to me. It is definitely not top priority. There are so many things to do;)
Part of the player is ready for handling PIP, but a large part would need an overhaul. There would just be to much work in this features.
Why don't you just start two instances of the player. Even though they would both write the same config and log file it should work. (You could also have two copies of the player). I hope to add a simple volume control in the next version such that you could mute on of the players.
Wouldn't this do the trick without any work from me:)?

Love the new version,  it is working great for me, and is a fantastic addition to this already great player.

As others have stated, I'd like to see the channel number incorporated with the call sign.  Both in the current channel area and the channel listing section below.

It would also be neat to have the description of the show pop-up when you mouse over the show title, or the channel area.  Some of the titles aren't that descriptive, and a description somewhere would be helpful.  Or put it in a box below the current channel area.

Finally, I notice when I change channels, the screen size gets reset.  I often make the screen somewhat bigger to fit better on my monitor.  It would be nice if it remembers the last channels window setting so I don't have to resize it every time I change channels.

Everything else looks and works great.

- Channel numbering is already implemented.(Next release)
- Videoresize. It has been reported a number of times so I will change this behavior soon;)
- I also thought about the popup description. I have not found a way to implement it in the GUI library yet ;/.. I will have to look more at it. I would really like to improve how the channels and current program are presented. I think it would be useful to be able to see what starts next on all channels. And also some kind of bar that described how many percent of the program is done. I am open to suggestions as I am not sure how it should be presented.
-  Should I increase the size of the channel windows?
- Should channels and recordings be in separate windows(as the recordings was in version 0.2.1). Or was it a good idea to integrate them into the player window?

IMHO it is best to have as few separate windows as possible for a Windows program. I find it hard to keep track of a lot of small windows belonging to one program when they get minimized/hidden. Better to have one or two larger windows where as much as possible can be shown. So I thought the integration of liveTv and recordings was a good idea.

I think the size looks good right now.  Scrolling through channels isn't very tough the way it is setup.  Why not throw a number of channels to display variable in the config file and let people pick how many to show at once.

I think the channels work well in the player window.  It is intuitive and easy to switch back and forth, and is nice that it does not interfere with what the player is playing when you jump from LiveTV to Recordings.

I am open to suggestions as I am not sure how it should be presented.
You may look into more of a "program guide" like display.  You certainly don't need the 3 hours of data and all the color coding that is used in mythweb, but it would be very cool to show the next hour or hour and a half worth of programming on each channel in a guide-like format.  Just boxes with titles would be ideal, and maybe a description box on the bottom that shows details of a highlighted entry in the guide, or the show that is currently playing.

Subject: Brilliant - Live TV works over here
Just wanted to say It works and it works well.
Features I wouldn't mind having
1. PiP or multiple players on different TV stations or playing back multiple recordings
2. Auto Pop Up for a show - You tell it you want to watch something at 2PM on Channel #12 and it turns on at that time.
3.  Word scan or search features of the database - You type in a word and it brings back the shows - I know this is getting more into a full blown front end system

Love the player - Works great - Going to go change my Live TV profile and see what happens with the bandwidth. <Edit> I changed my Live TV profile and it changed the bandwidth, wow that really looked crappy. You need to stop the recording and start again to get the new profile(not really surprising)
