Subject: Unable to init SDL
I unzipped the 5.0 pre-release which works on 2 other machines in the house.

I also tried the 4.1 release, same problem.

When I launch the app from it's current working directory (after unzipping it), I get a message box:
Unable to init SDL.
Couldn't initialize SDL.  Error message is 'No available video device'

I searched both this forum and google with no help.

WinXP SP2

Let me know what ever type of capturing I need to do to help debug this.

TIA,
Dave

It is because the graphic library can't find your graphics card. My guess is that you are using a laptop with an "older" chipset ;)What hardware are you trying to run the player on?
Try reinstalling directx, and maybe reinstall your graphic drivers.

It is a desktop computer.
Pentium 4 - 2.4 Ghz
ATI Radeon 7000

The ATI driver is running the most current driver.  6.14.10.6462 (Mar 2004).

According to dxdiag.exe:
DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

I will try reinstalling each separately and see what happens.
Everything else is working fine on the computer, including games.

Well, well.
The ATI driver re-install seemed to do it.
I had already tried the reboot before I posted.
Things are working as expected now.
Thanks for the suggestion.
