Subject: LiveTV does not start
The new LiveTV just does not start for me. Playback of recordings work fine, its just LiveTV. I have created 3 screenshots which show what it does do. I am running

mythbackend --version (from ATRPMS on Fedora Core 6)
Library API version     : 0.20.20070821-1
Source code version     : 0.20.2-165.fc6
SVN Branch              : branches/release-0-20-fixes
Options compiled in     :
 linux release using_xvmcw using_lmsensors using_v4l using_oss using_alsa using_arts using_jack using_ivtv using_firewire using_dbox2 using_hdhr using_ip_rec using_freebox using_live using_lirc using_joystick_menu using_dvb using_x11 using_xv using_xrandr using_xvmc using_xvmc_vld using_opengl_vsync using_opengl using_frontend using_backend using_bindings_perl

Starting mythtvplayer in the LiveTV mode, you can see the channels http://www.edcint.co.nz/mythtvplayer/ss1.jpg.

Double-clicking a channel loads the channel name into the channel text box and on the mythtv backend grabs a tuner (seen from mythweb status and mythtvplayer status) http://www.edcint.co.nz/mythtvplayer/ss2.jpg.

Then after about 8 seconds, mythtvplayer just gives up http://www.edcint.co.nz/mythtvplayer/ss2.jpg.

The log.txt states "Recording never seems to get any frames" is attached to this post.

What it does is that it spawns livetv and the calls "GetNumberOfWrittenFrames" on the recorder so see if the recorder actually started recording. (If it has not started recording, there is no file to open). As you say, it waits 8 seconds before giving up. So far, it has been working on all recorders, but yours ;/ There seems be quite some difference between recorders. (It took quite some changes to make it work on HDTV recorders, and there is no guarantee that it works on all)

What kind of recorder(s) do you use?
How long time does it, approximately, takes the real frontend to start livetv?
Did the recorder actually record anything? (That is, is there a short recording the the livetv group)

The question is if I have to change the way I check if the recorder has actually started recording or just increase the time we are willing to wait.

I have a 4 Leadtek Winfast DTV USB Dongles. I tried LiveTV through Mythdora (I hardly ever use a frontend) and it too failed on Tuner 4. I switched to another tuner and it worked. So in mythtvplayer I also switched to another tuner and it works (although it does nearly take up all the 8 seconds to start). So it turned out to be my 4th tuner which I will have to look at fixing.

Thanks

I hope you get you tuner working.
I will increase the 8 seconds timeout to something like 12 seconds to be on the safe side.
