Frequently Asked Question

Fell free to ask all questions in the forum, if you can't find your problem in the FAQ.

No video is playing but the audio works fine

This is probably because the driver for the graphic card is not allowing hardware accelerated scaling. Try to update the driver and reinstall directx. This problem have been reported a number of times on old laptops or old graphic cards, but a driver update fixes the problem.

No video on secondary monitor or when using TV-out

Unfortunately, the SDL library I use for accessing the graphic-card does not work on secondary monitors and TV-out. I think it is because I use hardware overlay, so currently there is nothing I can do about it.

The player keeps stopping and rebuffering

This is probably because you are using a wireless network that are not able to handle the bandwidth. A 54MBIT network can only provide 15MBIT, and that is if you are close to the access-point. To test the bandwidth, transfer a large file from the server using a normal windows-share and inspect the actual bandwidth. This can be done by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Esc and choosing the "Networking" tab.

How does MythTv Player communicate with the backend

MythTv Player only uses port 6546 to communicate with the backend using the mythtv protocol. It does not need access to the mysql database. Recordings are also streamed through port 6546. Optionally, recordings can be streamed from a samba share for better performance.
