Features
MythTv Player is not an official part of MythTv and is not meant as competitor for the real mythtv frontend which is excellent for fullscreen operation on a television. It is meant as a lightweight alternative to run on a normal pc/laptop, enabling you to watch recordings while working at your pc. Fullscreen is of course also possible.
Current Features
The player is still under heavy development, currently supporting the following functionality.
- Access recordings directly from MythTv backend using the mythtv protocol. No need for Samba or access to the internal mysql database.
- Plays MPEG2, transcoded, and High Definition recordings.
- Support for MythTv version 0.18 to 0.21 (Protocol 15 to 40). It can be forced to connect using a newer, unknown, protocol for future MythTv versions.
- Fully independent, including all needed codecs.
- Network buffering, including prebuffering and rebuffering on buffer underruns.
- Simple GUI.
- Fast startup and operation.
- Commercials can be skipped, using the commercial marks from the backend. Including automatic skipping.
- Bookmark support using MythTv bookmarks.
- Deletion of recordings directly from the player.
